Next year I turn 25. At that age where I live insurance for RHD becomes way easier obtain . Since I don’t have money for a JDM legend, I’ll have to settle for cheap car. I spend the whole evening looking at what there is. I have come to a car . A Starlet Glanza V: 138hp, 2094 lbs, good car. It be perfect, even if it is a little boy racer.
I’ve talked to guy I auto-x with who owns several RHD cars(AE86, X90 Chaser, & a T240 Caldina GT4) , & he will send me some info for everything about owning one. Hopefully it all works out, or I might be dreaming.

Everyone I know that lives here has had drop at 25, regardless of their record. Everywhere is different for insurance, so I can't really compair two different places.

You’d auto cross a Starlet? I wouldn’t...
The Diahatsu Charade of the same period was better. So was the Suzuki Swift.

What do you want to know about them? Theres loads here in NZ, one of the guys I work with has a soft spot for them, and has two, one manual, one auto.

The fact that slightly better cars means you’d never autocross this one?
I daresay the starlet has better build quality. And it’s not just any starlet! Glanza!
Weren’t the charade and swift three cylinder?

Mine dropped at 25 here in Nova Scotia, but I’ve heard prices can still stay high for RHD cars because of the perceived ‘increased accident risk’ a lot of i
nsurance companies have for them... :/

Oh I’d autocross the Hell out of a Starlet (that doesn’t sound weird at all). I’d happily autocross anything...that is to my mind the actual intention of autocross.
Both the Charade and the Swift of the early 90s were 4 cylinder cars. My own Charade was a 1.3 litre.
The Starlet of the time was comparatively expensive at a time that cars were expensive (I paid 13 grand drive a way in 1992 for a new base model Charade). It was also basic and underpowered. Its only positive was that it was a Toyota.

I wonder how this car is to mod. Usually these small cars have a weak trans unfortunately. Too bad the SR16VE cars like the Pulsar VZ-R wouldn’t be available . That is IMO the coolest of this kind of car. March Superturbo as well ofc.
Just to let you know I imported , what at the time was, a cheap car. Owning a car with 0 us presence, especially something not popular, is very expensive. The car I owned was a Skyline GTS-T, got it landed for under $7k. Parts and everything was insanely expensive until about 3 or 4 years in when they were everywhere here.

I’d autocross a rwd era starlet with a 4age conversion like this one dude has at my local autocross lmao.
